Make the WPA options visible in the comparison
WPA's brochure shows a £250 core consultation benefit, with options to increase it to £500, £1,000 or unlimited. MRI, CT and PET scans are already included in core cover. The separate diagnostic-test option adds tests such as blood tests, X-rays and ultrasound. Check all three parts: consultations, major scans and routine tests. WPA brochure.
On the Bupa quote, check the outpatient allowance. Ask which bills use it and which have separate cover.
Check the exact hospital before choosing
WPA lists Premium Hospitals separately. Its FAQs say there is a 90-day wait before you can claim for treatment at one if you add this benefit at renewal. Adding the option at renewal does not give you access straight away.
With either insurer, check the consultant’s fees and exact treatment site. Check any separate scan centre too. Use the hospital-list checklist. A hospital-group name alone does not confirm cover.
Joining WPA at age 66 or over
WPA’s March 2026 Complete Health brochure sets extra rules for people joining aged 66 or over. They need full medical underwriting and at least a £500 excess. Full medical underwriting means the insurer checks their medical history before setting the terms. If they choose Cancer Care, targeted cancer therapies and advanced therapy medicinal products are covered only when unavailable on the NHS. WPA’s current public FAQs tell this age group to contact it. Confirm the terms of your own offer. Brochure, printed pages 19 and 26.
Consider the next renewal as well as the first premium
Ask for the NCD level on each quotation and how claims change it. Our no-claims discount comparison shows the published Bupa and WPA rules alongside other examples.
Then compare the actual price. A smaller drop in discount does not always mean a cheaper renewal. The base price, starting discount, benefits and any short-term offer all matter.
Which would suit your priorities?
If local care matters most, check the hospitals and consultants first. If you want private diagnosis, compare the visit and test allowances. To explore lower prices, ask for quotes with different excesses but the same benefits.
If you already have cover, get your medical history assessed before weighing up a saving. Send your current documents securely. Ask for any changes in writing. See switching with pre-existing conditions.
Common questions
Does WPA Complete Health automatically include Cancer Care?
Cancer Care is an optional extra. Check your quote. Cover for tests to diagnose cancer does not mean cancer treatment is covered too.
Can I use any hospital with Bupa or WPA?
Check the exact site against your selected hospital access and confirm the specialist and treatment with the insurer. Do not assume every hospital used by the insurer is included in your policy.
Does WPA use no-claims discounts?
Complete Health does. Each insured person has their own level. Do not assume the same rule applies to every WPA product.
